The idea of West Michigan Woman was in its infancy when I had the opportunity to sit down with Judy Welch. It didn’t take me long to figure out she was connected, driven, determined and full of life. Her transparency and guidance were refreshing, yet—and most important—her passion for seeing others succeed is what made her special. There are many who know and have received advice from Judy Welch, but many don’t know the whole story. Her numerous life experiences have made her advice invaluable, and her passion is contagious. To learn more about Judy’s path, turn to page 26. This issue is chock-full of great tips, from how to build your “Carrie Bradshaw” closet, to booking a last-minute spring break experience that’s right for you; from tapping into your classic fashionista style, to finding the latest and greatest gym to get yourself moving. But you may notice something a bit different with this issue. West Michigan Woman is pleased to bring you a special section focused on Retirement and Aging. You may be asking, “Why this topic?” In our recent readership survey, we were surprised to learn how many of our readers are the “sandwich parent,” taking care of their children and their parents at the same time. And many of our readers have questions about their own next phase of life. Aging and retirement is a heavy topic—and when it’s quickly sprung upon you, it’s difficult to answer the many questions flooding your brain. There’s so much to think about, such as placement, financial considerations and, perhaps most significant, how the aging process affects you emotionally. In this issue, we hope to answer some questions you may be asking yourself. But if you still have questions, please consider joining us at Frederik Meijer Gardens on February 23, 2016, for our Aging & Retirement Wine Down. During the event we’ll have an expert panel discuss topics such as legal considerations, placement options, financial implications and more. Hope to see you there!
